MONTHLY OPEN DECKS NIGHT IN LEEDS
Join us each month at Northlight in Chapel Allerton for our open deck night. This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow music lovers, show off your DJ skills, or just to have a drink, and enjoy the music. You may be a seasoned pro, a bedroom DJ or a 50-odd-year-old ex-raver having a midlife crisis… we don’t mind, it's nice to play music to a bunch of people on a Friday, right?
BOOKING A DJ SLOT
The booking button above will become active two weeks before the event, which this month is Friday, 21st November. We’ll also post an announcement on Instagram and Facebook, so it’s a case of fastest finger first! We often receive requests to reserve slots in advance via the website, but unfortunately, we’re not able to offer pre-booking. Our online booking system ensures everyone has an equal chance to secure a spot.
If you are lucky enough to bag a slot, you will have 25 minutes on the decks with 10 slots available on the night, starting at 6.45 until the last slot at 10.30. We appreciate it's not always possible, but It would be great if all DJs could get there early and show support for the others and not just turn up for your go.
If you don’t get a DJ slot, don’t worry - please resist the urge to smash your device. You should still come down. There are often cancellations, people who forget they signed up, or people who suddenly realised it’s their wedding anniversary and a meal out is somehow the better option!
WE'RE OPEN TO EVERYONE
Just because it’s called an “open decks night”, it doesn’t mean you need to be a DJ. We welcome civilians too! So come along, bring your mates, have a drink, absorb some tunes… and if the moment takes you, have a little shimmy!
EQUIPMENT
We have two direct-drive turntables and a Pioneer XDJ all-in-one console available. If you plan to use the Pioneer system, please make sure your music is prepared in advance using Pioneer’s Rekordbox software, which you can download at: www.rekordbox.com/en/download/. All DJs should bring their own headphones. If you're playing vinyl, we recommend bringing your own cartridges as well—while we do have some on hand, many vinyl DJs prefer to use their own.
MUSIC STYLE
Our focus is on dance and electronic music - essentially, anything designed for mixing. That said, we welcome a wide range of styles: Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, Disco, Motown, Drum & Bass… just maybe leave the Meatloaf LP at home!
